What a fun afternoon celebrating IVC Homecoming! Our St. Edward’s Jaguars loved being part of the IVC Homecoming Parade! Our St. Edward’s Dance Team brought the Jaguar spirit with a great performance, while students and families joined in the fun passing out crowns & candy and cheering along the parade route. 🐆📣🍬 We are grateful to be part of the Chillicothe community and love opportunities like this that bring our schools, families, and small town together. And judging by those smiles, our Jaguars had a pretty great time, too! Happy Homecoming, IVC! 👻🏈🎉

We’ve been celebrating all week, and today was the BIG day! In anticipation of the beatification of Fulton J. Sheen, our Jaguars have spent the past several days learning, praying, creating, and celebrating together. 🙏 Each morning since last week, we gathered as a school to pray a Novena for Fulton Sheen’s canonization as part of our regular morning prayer circle. 📖 We learned about his life through Fulton Sheen and the Very Bad Week by Bonnie Engstrom. 💡 We tested our knowledge with Fulton Sheen trivia. 🌎 We learned about and prayed a World Mission Rosary—and each student received a World Mission Rosary of their own. 🎨 Students created beautiful artwork inspired by Sheen and his faith with lessons created from the amazing Katie Bogner. 📺 And today, we had the canonization broadcast playing throughout the building so our students could witness this historic moment! There is something so special about our children learning about a holy man whose story is so deeply connected to the place we call home. What a blessing to be part of the Diocese of Peoria at this moment in history! ✝️ May the life of Fulton Sheen remind our whole school community that holiness isn’t something far away—it is something each of us is called to, right here, right now. 💙💛

Sometimes the best learning happens when children simply have an idea and run with it. Our preschoolers organically decided, “Let’s work together to build a loooooong tower!” And off they went! What looks like play is filled with learning: collaboration, communication, problem-solving, early arithmetic, spatial reasoning, and persistence—all while working toward a shared goal. This is childhood learning at its best: hands-on, joyful, purposeful, and together. You’ll find it every day at St. Edward’s! ✝️👑

We have another full week ahead at St. Edward’s- from Band and Yearbook Club to birthday celebrations, our Bishop Fulton Sheen Beatification Day celebration, and Friday’s Homecoming Parade!

Last week, our students had the opportunity to participate in our Student Council elections! It was wonderful to see them take an active role in our school community, practice leadership, and make their voices heard.

🚌 Grateful for Great Partnerships! We are so thankful for our partnership with IVC School District and the transportation they provide for some of our St. Edward’s students! Partnerships like this make a meaningful difference for our families and help ensure our Jaguars have a safe and reliable way to get to and from school each day. Thank you to IVC and especially to the awesome bus drivers who care for our students along the way. We appreciate you! 💙💛

Our Jaguars have learned, celebrated, smiled, read, shopped, prayed, and made some pretty special memories along the way. We’re grateful for a staff that is always willing to learn from one another and keep growing for our students. At St. Edward’s, we want our students to grow not only academically, but also in the habits and virtues that help them show their goodness every day. This year, we will focus on one virtue each month as a school.

Throughout September, our school community will focus on the virtue of Courtesy: “Treating other people with respect, recognizing that all are made in God’s image and likeness.” ALL are made in God's image and likeness- now, that's an important lesson!

Students will hear this language in their classrooms, during morning announcements, through conversations with teachers, and in the everyday moments when they have opportunities to put courtesy into practice.

We aren’t simply teaching our students about their faith. We’re helping them learn how to live it. 💙💛

Here’s what’s happening at St. Edward’s this week as we move into September!

The preschoolers got a special visit from Father Martin. He read them Bible stories and even got down to their level.

Early childhood education matters so much, and we are thankful to have so much involvement from our entire community to spread love and kindness to our littlest learners.

🔥 Practicing Safety at St. Edward’s Our students and staff practiced one of our important school safety routines with a fire drill. Our Jaguars did a wonderful job listening, following directions, and taking the drill seriously. We ended the drill with a prayer of thanksgiving for our safety today and for the wisdom to practice appropriate safety measures. 💙 It’s all part of our commitment to Safety. #SafetyAndBelonging #StEdwardsJaguars #KnownLovedRootedGrowing

There’s a lot of important learning happening here every day, but there’s also time to just be a kid. Time to play. To laugh. To build friendships. To be creative. To move. To enjoy the people around you. We build outside recess time into the kids' day all the way up through eighth grade. Our teachers love being outside too, soaking in the fresh air together with their students. Childhood Honored is one of our Core Values because childhood isn’t something to rush through. We’re grateful our students get to learn, grow, and have a whole lot of fun along the way!

📚 Academic Excellence starts with a love of learning.

With the support of our parishioners and school families, our library was transformed over the summer because we know how important it is to give time and space for children to settle in with a good book.

During library time, our students are given something increasingly valuable: quiet, uninterrupted time to read. They explore books, listen to stories, talk about what they’re reading, and simply enjoy the peaceful experience of getting lost in a book.

Building strong readers takes instruction, of course—but it also takes time. Time to practice. Time to build attention and stamina. And time to discover that reading can be something you love.

That’s Academic Excellence at St. Edward’s in action! We cannot wait to watch our readers grow throughout the year! 💙📖
