Saint of the Day
SAINT MARTIN was elected Pope in 649. One of his first acts as Pope was to declare Monothelism, the belief that Jesus had no human will, a heresy. The Emperor Constans II, who subscribed to this heresy, tried to silence Saint Martin and arranged for him to be abducted and put on trial. Saint Martin was later exiled to the Crimea where, after great hardships and torture, he died in 653.
