Saint of the Day
Saint of the Day
Born in Krakow, Poland in 1461, SAINT CASIMIR was the second son of King Casimir IV of Poland, but eschewed his royal privileges and lived simply, spending much of his time in prayer. After reluctantly taking part in a failed military campaign in Hungary, Casimir redoubled his commitment to God. He died at the age of 23 from a lung disease and was buried in Vilnius Cathedra. Today, he is venerated as the Patron Saint of Poland and Lithuania.
